Dafif Data Download
'dafif' was/is a product produced by the US DoD mainly for use of DoD agencies. Due to concern of various countries, DoD terminated public access to the data. As a result, it is necessary to obtain this from other sources. In the US, FAA has this data available. For other countries, not so easy. To support loading the 'raw' DAFIF data into flightgear, so people can just download it directly to update to a new AIRAC cycle, or is that way too much data to contemplate? I'm still trying to get a handle on the data format and how much of it is useful / useless to us at runtime, so any / all information people have would be gratefully received. Database is called the Digital Vertical Obstruction File (DVOF). The database is primarily for NGA's internal use and isn't available as a 'standard' product (i.e. You can't get it from the Defense Logistics Agency), however you can download the data using NGA's 'WebDVOF'.
Seriously, the DAFIF is a wonderful example of free information online, even if the Web people forget to renew their certificate, or even to come up with a domain name to associate with the IP address. This support included a GATM performance assessment and a data chain certification of the Air Force Flight Management System (AFFMS) and the digital aeronautical flight information file (DAFIF) it uses. If you download your DAFIF directly from NGA then you may have missed the arrival of DAFIF Edition 8. DAFIF has moved to a DVD containing Edition 7 data, Edition 8 data and the MIDAFIF (Map Info DAFIF) and AVDAFIF (ArcView DAFIF) that used to come on a third CD. You still get 3 discs (Edition 6 CD, Edition 7 CD and Edition 7/8 DVD) so the case.

Upon completion of this review, a detailed report is delivered to the procedure’s Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR). This report includes a list of all discrepancies found in the data along with our suggestions for the correction of the issues. This review can be conducted on newly designed or amended procedures as well as any currently published procedures that need coding corrections.
